We first met Zizipho (pictured above) when she was 6 months old. She was admitted with spina bifida - a birth defect where the spinal cord hasn't completely developed.
But with the physiotherapy department's intervention, Zizipho – who is now almost four years old – is on her way to a specialised pre-school facility, and her future looks so much brighter.
This beautiful little girl is one of our 'miracle' babies ... whose lives have been dramatically changed thanks to the support of people like you, who help fund medical essentials. Thank you!
Nonhle was admitted when she was just five months old and severely malnourished. She was left in our care by her sickly mother, who went missing and was never found.
We started Nonhle on ARV treatment immediately, and nurtured her back to health with tender loving care. Her animated little face had all our staff besotted – and it was an emotional day seeing her turn one in July.
Our little miracle Nonhle was taken into foster care the very next month. We love happy endings!
Simphiwe was found abandoned at a shopping centre in Mariannridge when she was only a few days old. She was brought to St Mary's by a concerned couple, who just fell in love with her and visited her regularly here.
They then went through the necessary process to foster her. The miracle is that she was found, brought to St Mary’s, cared for and nurtured and that the social worker and counsellors were able to speed up the foster process so that Simphiwe could go home to her new family within three months. Normally the process takes much longer.
At four years old, Nontethelelo was skin and bone when she was admitted to St Mary's with a cough and chronic diarrhoea that had gone untreated for 3 months. Our doctor diagnosed gastro enteritis and TB - as well as severe malnourishment and immune suppression.
It's hard to believe it's the same child on the right, pictured the day she walked out of our Children's Ward - bright eyed, healthy and happy.
Quality medical care works wonders ... but who can deny that the power of love and prayer can work miracles?
